Creation Seminar

Cornerstone is hosting a Creation Seminar, with guest speaker Prof. Andy McIntosh, during March 23-25.  We are excited about this seminar because it gives us the opportunity to use the building that God has given us as a platform for holding forth biblical truth about Creation in our community.

Prof. Andy McIntosh is a British scientist and lecturer who travels around the world speaking about Creation, evolution, and a biblical world view.  Andy earned his Ph.D. in combustion theory from the Cranfield Institute of Technology, Bedford, England, and a D.Sc. from the University of Wales. He was appointed a Fellow of the Institute of Energy (FInstE) with Chartered Engineer status (C.Eng), and became the Professor of Thermodynamics and Combustion Theory at the University of Leeds (NB: ‘professor’ in a British Commonwealth university is a title given only to the highest rank of lecturer). His research has included reducing supersonic drag of fighter planes, testing airflow through re-designed wind turbines, ignition studies of fluids and solids, pressure interactions with flames, and the movement of smoke and fire. This work involved a number of external companies and his research group has published many papers. He has also been appointed a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (FInstP). Andy is the author of Genesis for Today, a book that shows the relevance of Genesis for today's society.

The biblical doctrine of Creation is important to Christianity not just as a point of argument, but because it is the foundation of the entire Christian message.  The Bible repeatedly asserts that the universe is the handiwork of God and that its main purpose is to glorify God (Genesis 1:1, Psalm 19:1, Psalm 24:1).  The purpose of our existence is rooted in Creation: we were created by God in His image in order to glorify Him and enjoy Him forever (Psalm 111:10, Ecclesiastes 12:13-14, Micah 6:8).  Sin in the Bible is defined in terms of our original created purpose, "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).  We need a Savior who will "bring us to God" (1 Peter 3:18).  In short, if the biblical doctrine of Creation is not true, then the Bible is not the Word of God and there is no gospel of salvation.  The stakes couldn't be higher.  No wonder that unbelievers have attacked the Christian faith at precisely this point (Romans 1:21-25).  It is our joy as a church to defend the truth that "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1) in our community.
