Doing what only God can do

1

We are continuing a two-part video series during the adult Sunday school class this Lord's Day (7/24/2011) on "Doing What Only God Can Do" by John Piper.  In part 1, John Piper raised and provided biblical answers for the following questions:

  1. What is the highest, ultimate, decisive good in the gospel that makes the gospel good news?  Answer: "The glory of Christ" (2 Cor. 4:4-6).
  2. What is lostness?  Answer: Blindness to spiritual light (2 Cor. 4:4).
  3. What is conversion?  Answer: God opening blind eyes to see the light of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ (2 Cor. 4:6).
  4. What role do "jars of clay" like us play in this (2 Cor. 4:7).  Answer: We proclaim the gospel to lost sinners, which God uses to open their eyes (Acts 26:18; 2 Tim. 2:24-26; 1 Peter 1:23).

Please join us this Sunday as we watch and discuss Part 2 of this excellent series.

Peter and John's preaching style. (simple)

When Peter and John where preaching to the people of Jerusalem, (Acts 3) the people were in awe over the miracle of healing and had it in their minds that it was by the apostles own power. They then rebuked that thought and went on to preach the kingdom in a simple and powerful way giving glory to Jesus being the power of God only, and how they persecuted the Son of God.

It doens't seem hard to proclaim the Gospel, Fear may be a factor among us sheep that would keep us from shouting it on the rooftops.

Gary.
