Biblical New Year's Resolutions
Many Americans make New Year's resolutions, such as: lose weight; get on a budget; spend more time with family; take steps to improve my career; read some good books; stop smoking; etc. These are good resolutions to make. God's Word, the Bible, gives us many admonitions that can be implemented as New Year's resolutions. The advantage that these biblical "New Year's resolutions" have over other New Year's resolutions is that they will benefit us not only for time, but also for eternity. Here are ten sample New Year's resolutions from the Bible:
- Make sure I'm saved (2 Cor. 13:5; Heb. 4:1; 2 Pet. 1:10)
- Make sure that the people who know me know that I'm a Christian (Matt. 10:32-33; Rom. 10:9-10; 1 Pet. 3:15)
- Make God's kingdom the top priority in my life (Matt. 6:33)
- Read the Bible daily (Psalm 1:2; Acts 17:11)
- Pray throughout the day every day (Rom. 12:12; Eph. 6:18; Col. 4:2)
- Be more consistent in family worship (Deut. 6:6-7; Joshua 24:15; Psalm 78:4-6; Eph. 6:4)
- Share the gospel with people (Matt. 28:19; 1 Pet. 3:15)
- Use my gifts to serve others, especially in a biblical local church (Matt. 20:28; Acts 2:42; Eph. 4:15-16; 1 Tim. 3:15; Heb. 10:25; 1 Pet. 4:10-11; 1 John 3:16)
- Be more faithful and sacrificial in my giving (Mal. 3:8; 2 Cor. 9:7; Phil. 4:18; Heb. 13:16)
- Read good, Christian books (Eph. 4:11, 14; 2 Tim. 2:15; 4:13; Heb. 6:1)
